President's Message
Greater Charlotte USBC continues to work hard to provide awards, services, and tournaments for the bowlers in our association. The board of directors and I would like to hear from the bowlers to offer their opinions on what we can do to encourage bowlers to participate in our programs, services, and tournaments that we provide for them. I would surely like to know why bowlers don’t take more of a personal interest in their local association. We provide a calendar of events to each bowling center within our association to make sure all bowlers have access to our calendar. We also post our calendar on our website.
I want the Greater Charlotte Board of Directors to know how much I greatly appreciate the time they volunteer to provide our bowlers with programs, services, awards, and tournaments. Our board continues to struggle with getting volunteers to help us. If you are interested in joining our board of directors our annual meeting will be April 14, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. at SMS Catering at 1764 Norland Road, Charlotte, NC 28205. You can get tickets for the annual meeting or more information from our Association Manager Linda Thomas by emailing her at greatercharlotte@windstream.net or calling her at 704-243-3585. We are asking for all bowlers to attend our annual meeting to enjoy a nice dinner, enjoy our awards presentations, and honor our Hall of Fame Inductees and Gem Honoree. We also use our annual meeting to inform our bowlers of our past year activities, vote on incoming board members, and tournament recognitions.
Bowlers, I encourage you to visit our website www.charlottebowls.com for updated information and upcoming events.
I would like to thank past board members Howard Keller, Cynthia Sifford, Sheila St. Germain, and Nellie Manning for serving our board. We appreciate all their hard and dedicated work they provided while serving our bowlers.
I would like to thank Willene Jennings and Brenda Morgan along with committee members for an awesome job at our Event for the Cure at the VFW on the Plaza back in February. Those that were not there truly missed a great event. Thanks also to Wanda Glenn and the board for providing door prizes and providing a Bowl for the Cure Event on Sunday, Feb. 26. We try to honor those who have been affected by breast cancer. We look you will join us next year to support this worthy cause. I am sure we all have had an encounter with this serious disease; either a relative, neighbor, or coworker. Between these two events, the association raised $3,045.06 for the Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and a special thank you to all those that donated and/or came out to support these events.
We are nearing the end of the 2011-2012 bowling season and I hope you will continue to have great bowling scores. If you see one of our board members in the bowling centers, please take a moment and tell them how much you appreciate them for volunteering countless hours to support the sport of bowling.
I am looking forward to seeing you on the lanes soon!
Yvette Davis, President
